The device creates a negative pressure (vacuum) that draws fluids through disposable tubing that is connected to a collection bottle. The fluids are trapped in the collection bottle for proper disposal. It is for use on the order of a physician only.

DSU 7, suction unit higher vacuum levels are generally selected for oropharyngeal suctioning, and lower vacuum levels are usually selected for tracheal suctioning and for suctioning procedures involving children and infants.
